Self-taught, I have been a silkworker for nearly 30 years. I find my inspiration in very old decorative styles. In most of my work I use kilim geometric designs -from those magnificent oriental carpets from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, or Central Asia. These motifs have been used for centuries.
The same Kilim technique of flat tapestry weaving is practised across different continents, notably by Indians in North and South America and also by the nomad peoples of Central Europe and the berbers of North Africa.
What I like best is to give free rein to an infinite expression of colour. Silk satin is used exclusively for my wall hangings as it gives the most beautiful highlights I purchase the silk in complete lengths then dye it in all sorts of colours and variations. By using geometric forms like abstract designs of flowers, plants and animals, I am able to transform them into patchwork. I also employ the technique of appliqué work and embroidery. I live and work in Drôme provençale.
